For community.

Built from scratch. Still growing.

The outdoors doesn't always feel like it's for everyone. Girls Who Hike Virginia started as a simple idea—create a space where women+ could find each other, find the trail, and find confidence they didn't know they had. What it became is something much bigger than any of us expected.
As cofounder and board president, I've been inside this organization from day one. The brand, the website, the content, the visual identity—I built it all alongside the community it represents.

Role: Cofounder & President, Board of Directors; Brand & Content Strategist, Web & Print Designer, Photographer, Content Creator

Scope: Brand Design, Web Design, Photography, Content Strategy, Video Production + Editing, Brand Partnerships

Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Squarespace, Canon RP, Instagram Reels

The Challenge

Most outdoor spaces were designed by and for a narrow set of people. Women+, particularly those from underrepresented communities, often don't see themselves reflected in outdoor marketing, leadership, or spaces. GWHVA set out to change that—not with a campaign, but with a community.

The Process

  • Created content centered on connection, not perfection — real women, real trails, real joy
  • Produced photography and video across hikes, summits, stewardship events, and community partnerships
  • Every post, reel, and campaign built to reflect what the outdoors actually feels like for this community
Tell the Story

  • Cultivated brand partnerships with REI, Latino Outdoors, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, and others to expand access and amplify reach
  • Developed partnership frameworks that have brought new audiences into the GWHVA community
  • Helped grow the organization from a Facebook group into a statewide volunteer-run nonprofit
Grow the Community
  • Designed a visual identity from the ground up—warm, grounded, and confident
  • Developed brand guidelines that have scaled across a 60+ ambassador network statewide
  • Built and maintained the GWHVA website on Squarespace
